Welcome to BRB, everyone! How was your weekend? Mine was extremely busy. I spent Friday completing the second to last round of edits for my newest novel. Saturday I did paperwork. And Sunday our writer's group had a potluck meeting. Today I've more paperwork to do. And since I wasn't able to finish writing my review of another book I've just read, I decided to post the following review instead!
Not Ready Sensei? – Yaoi Review
Not Ready Sensei written and drawn by
Kazuma Kodaka was first released in 2000. Ms. Kodaka is one of my favourite
mangaka; not only does she have her own distinctive style, she’s come up with
some interesting plot lines, memorable characters that are beautiful, and she’s
got a great sense of humour. It’s rare to find that unique combination –
gorgeous art infused with a decent story. I enjoy reading dramatic yaoi, but
once in a while I like a good laugh. And Not Ready Sensei delivers the humour
in spades.
Here’s a brief synopsis: Murakami Hiroshi
draws yaoi manga for a living. And even though he has a girlfriend, he sleeps
with Kagura Tsubaki a man he works with on a regular basis, plus he seduces his
new assistant Tanabe. Hiroshi’s personal life is a mess because he can’t stop
sleeping around, and everything he does in private comes out in his work,
literally. Not that his employer cares, they love the smut, and encourage him
to spice it up. Which leads to an even more interesting sex life.
To be honest, I thoroughly savoured this yaoi. It was a quick read. The
characters in particular Hiroshi, was quite funny, him and his constant denial
that he’s gay. The sex, as always, was well illustrated, the bodies were proportionate;
it was plain hot! The plot was simple, but then this yaoi wasn’t meant to be a
long-winded series. Not Ready Sensei gets 4.5 stars!
Happy Yaoi Hunting!
