BOOST YOUR HEALTH
Most of us are health conscious today. We
attempt to eat the proper foods and exercise, both of which are very important
to maintain a healthy body. What about your mind?
Another hot topic of discussion with
scientists and the medical community is maintaining a healthy brain. And, it’s
so true. If you keep your mind, body, and soul in sync you’ll live, I believe, a
long and emotionally prosperous life. Our ancestors knew this. Just as an
example, Chi. Chi (pronounced chee and also spelled qi or ch’i) is a life
giving energy that unites body, mind and spirit. This is a form of
physical and mental exercise incorporated with meditation. The brain is the hub
of our body, without it the other organs won’t function, and if our brain is
ill the rest of our body and soul suffers with it. The brain is amazing, it can
heal the body (mind over matter) and if we ever harness it’s full potential
we’d be able to levitate, cross the universe, eradicate disease, overcome our
prejudices–the possibilities are endless!
In order to keep your brain happy and help
prevent dementia and other diseases like Alzheimer’s, you must exercise it and
this is where reading comes in. Reading every day helps to work the little grey
cells; it stimulates growth and enhances the memory. In the process we gain knowledge, improve on our reading, writing, comprehension, and vocabulary
skills. And, if we continue this daily ritual into the twilight years we’re
sure to keep ourselves mental sharp. The brain like our bodies needs stimulation.
Puzzles are great, words searches and crosswords! Did you know playing video
games once in a while improves hand, eye, and brain coordination? Another
great outlet is board games. All these activities encourage your mind to work.
I don’t know about you, but I try to read
every day and I don’t care what it is: a news article, a book, whatever I can
find. I know what you’re thinking and, yes, I do tons of editing and reading of
my own material, which is true. But for personal growth and to expand my own
imagination, I need to read what others say!
Plus, I believe as authors we have tendency to become inactive. It's natural considering we're sitting on our asses 80 percent of the time, due to our career, or as in some cases, the hobby we've chosen. Reading and writing are great for the mind, but do little for us physically. I exercise every day. And, I try to walk as much as I can. Of course diet is a huge contributing factor when it comes to maintaining a healthy weight. And I can tell you from personal experience, you can exercise all you want, but if you don't get the food consumption as in the portion size and what you're eating under control you will never and I mean never lose weight. It has taken me years to figure out what my body needs nutrition wise, but it's worked. Never give up!
Anyway, have a great Monday, everyone, and...
Happy Yaoi Hunting
Blak Rayne ^_^!!
OOOh! The serious side of Blak. Quite right of course. I try to write a little every day, until the inspiration flags, then hop on my bike and ride the 5 km (3 miles) over the hills into town where I can enjoy an unhealthy latte and stare out over the Endeavour River. Then back over the hills to get more work done. Got to mix the brain work with the leg work.
ReplyDeleteYou are such a cheeky lady. :P LOL But I'm glad to hear you are active. :)
