What genre do your currently write? And, is there a genre you'd like to write, but haven't tried yet?
Contemporary Erotic Romance. I have dabbled in others, but my niche is contemporary.
Many authors use a nom de plume, and they
may use one opposite to their own sex. Do you think an author's sex or sexual
orientation should dictate what genre they write?
I hope not! I mean its fiction. Authors
with excellent research skills (hopefully anyone interested in becoming an
author will work on building those skills) can write anything they set their
mind to. That’s like saying people who write sci-fi or fantasy should be aliens
or unicorns for them to have credibility.
Some authors have issues with character
development, writer's block, plot summary etc. What is the biggest challenge
you face when writing?
Time! I am currently a full-time PhD student, I teach
college English and Literature, and I am trying to write as Cara North. I have
more outlined than I have time to get to. It is frustrating.
How do you overcome the problem? Lately, I
have been committing to sit down every day and write. It sounds like a
no-brainer, but life (home, work, school) can convince me to wait, and then its
bedtime and I have not added a word. I have also been using my iPhone. During dead
time throughout my day I have been typing up as much as I can there and pasting
it in later. My problem is simple. When I start writing, I don’t want to stop
until the book is done. I can get irritable if interrupted and frustrated if I
have to stop before a scene is complete. I am working on that part of my
writing personality.
What has been the single most successful
marketing tool you've used to date?
Word of mouth. Most of the people who
communicate with me about my books find me because someone gave them a book,
suggested one of my books, or they found it and then told someone else to read
it. I am grateful for every reader I have. I like that they tell me what they
like and do not like about my books. It helps me to get a better feel of what
they are looking for. I have revised books based on reviews and feedback once
the rights are returned to me. The people reading my books are the people I
count on, they are the ones I want to continue to entertain, and as long as I
do that, they will suggest me to other readers and my reader base will grow. As
for the readers who do not e-mail me or talk to me at conferences or book
events, I have no idea what I have done to get them. I’m just glad they are
there!
What are you currently reading?
More
homework than I like. I am reading several books on academic leadership for my
classes. I recently re-read Water for Elephants and The Perks of Being a
Wallflower because I assigned them to my English 111 classes, and I am
listening to The Great Gatsby read by my muse, Jake Gyllenhaal. On my Kindle, I
am reading Les Miserable by Victor Hugo. I try to only read romance novels that
are not in my genre unless they are given to me by a friend or an author who
wants my input or review prior to submitting it somewhere. When I do take a
break and read in the contemporary romance genre, I usually read Lori Foster’s
work. I have read Too Much Temptation so many times because I just love her
Noah.
How do you measure success?
Personally,
success is measured by my ability to look back on my day and say, “I did right
by others today.” Professionally, success is measured when my students
breakthrough their writing walls, and when readers tell me they like my work.
Just for fun–
What is your favourite drink? Sweet Tea.
I’m originally from Louisville, Kentucky. I grew up on tea.
Are you a cat or dog person? Both, but my
Cocker Spaniel, Miss Brittany is my heart.
Love or lust? Lust. Love is complicated.
Lust is simple and more fun!
If you could spend the day with any famous
author, who would it be? And, why? Hmmm, I have spent a lot of days with NYT
Best Selling authors at conventions, but if I could go one on one with someone
for a full day it would be…Ellen Degeneres. The back of her book revolutionized
my way of thinking about what I should be telling my readers. Yes, they need to
know about my book, but really, they need to know I value them!
If you could indulge free of any
consequences, what would be your ultimate sexual fantasy?
That is one hell of a
question! Hmmmm, I would have to say I would want Jake Gyllenhaal to read one
of my books for Audible. Then I could listen to him say great and terrible
things any time I wanted to... and so could every other woman.

Personal Assistant
Blurb:
Frankie put in the application to be a personal assistant without thinking she would actually get a job. She did. Working for one of Hollywood’s most desirable actors and unabashed flirt proves to be more challenging than any job she has had before.

Of course, when the lines between work and
play get blurry she has to let him break a few rules to avoid breaking her
heart.
