Welcome to BRB, everyone! I wish to pass on a Happy belated Canada Day to my fellow Canucks and, I'd also like to pass on a Happy Fourth of July to those living in the USA! Both dates wound up on and between my regular posting days, so I wanted to say something. :)
My guest today is erotic author Kay Dee Royal, a talented lady that's had a varied career in the publishing industry and has some interesting tidbits to share. So, let's begin! Thank you for joining me today, Kay Dee. What genre do your currently write? And, is
there a genre you'd like to write, but haven't tried yet?
KayDee: I actually began writing YA under a
different name. After I took on a ghostwriting job placing sex scenes into a
romance…well, shoot, how could I resist…not that I didn’t dabble in romance,
but that ghost-writing job sort of sealed the deal for me. I love writing erotic romance…although I
write contemporary, my favorite is paranormal and fantasyJ
Many authors use a nom de plume, and they
may use one opposite to their own sex. Do you think an author's sex or sexual
orientation should dictate what genre they write?
KayDee: Heavens NO. As writers, male or
female, we’re a creative lot and reaching into all sorts of experiences,
emotions, other peoples experiences, history, anywhere we can to find that
little nugget of gold for our plot, scenes, and characters. A male may have a
different spin on a genre than a female and visa-versa, but there are always
readers that appreciate those unique styles & voices ;)
Some authors have issues with character
development, writer's block, plot summary etc. What is the biggest challenge
you face when writing? How do you overcome the problem?
KayDee: As a matter of fact I had a big
challenge with Savage Smoke. I was down to the last 15K and knew my villain
would die, right…well, that bad-a** rogue grabbed my pen and we fought over it
for months. He wanted to redeem himself, and felt he had the right to it. To be
honest, I wanted him to right all of his wrongs…so, finally, after getting his
way, the story ends with that very possibility.
What has been the single most successful
marketing tool you've used to date?
KayDee: Oh, Blak…I wish I knew. I love
twitter…I like retweeting and so appreciate it when someone does that for me…it
gives me such a feeling of support and graciousness. Not a big fan of FB,
although I try hard with it. I’m just getting more involved with GoodReads…and
that place feels right to me because it’s all about books. Google seems
friendly, but then again, I’m clueless on all I can do there.
I’ve gone on book tours – Roxanne Rhoads
(Bewitching Book Tours) is an excellent place – she’s very reasonable and I
believe her hosts ripple out a good reach.
But, for all I’ve done – and believe me it
takes a lot of work and energy – the best marketing tool has to be readers that
love an author’s novels. Their reviews, passing on a good word, mentioning it
in any social media is the number one.
Joining an erotic romance book club might
be a good place to start…and GoodReads has thoseJ
What are you currently reading?
KayDee: I read like twenty or more books at
the same time (all different genres and authors)…I read to sate my mood and my
time. I don’t get to read for pleasure as much as I’d like anymore. Here’s a
few: Charlene A. Wilson’s One for Kami, HK Carlton’s Street People, Gail Roughton’s
The Color of Dusk, Blak Rayne’s *smiles* The Ideal Side of Love, Sandra
Carlson’s The Town That Disappeared (tween), Vi Keeland’s Belong to You (for a
book club), Marian Lanouette’s If I Fail, A Jake Carrington Novel (mystery
romance)...you get the picture.
How do you measure success?
KayDee: I measure my daily success by all
of the many friends I’ve discovered in the course of my writing career, like in
my publisher’s groups, in my social media circles, in the blogs I share, in the
on-line courses and workshops I take, and all of the amazing author’s I feature
on my blog…it’s wonderful support being around like-minded people, even if it
is only virtual…no one really understands an author’s world like another authorJ
BUT, on the grander scale for a measure of
success, it is seeing a review from a reader who loved my book…I have to say
there’s no greater feeling of accomplishment for me as a writer.
Just for fun–
What is your favourite drink? Dirty Chia
Tea LatteJ
Are you a cat or dog person? I used to be
totally a dog person…now, I’m more a cat person…hmmm
Love or lust? Love…definitely, it holds
both for meJ
If you could spend the day with any famous
author, who would it be? And, why?
There are so many authors I love, but Kate
Douglas…well, I’ve always loved her work and I would absolutely love to watch
her going through her daily schedule of writing. I’m sure I’d learn a ton from
her discipline.
If you could indulge free of any
consequences, what would be your ultimate sexual fantasy?
Oh…nothing like
putting a woman in the spotlight (LOL) and I’m sure you’ll think this is so
tame…but I’d love to spend time at a rustic cabin in my twenty-something year
old body with my DH…and enjoy an entire four days of constant passion…just like
our honeymoonJ
Sizzling HOT! Warning: Lots of two-somes,
three-somes, even more-somes, like it stimulating, arousing, and positively
natural…or supernatural.

Savage Smoke – Book 2
Lycan International Investigation
Agency Series
Blurb:
Chance and his LIIA pack of agents search
for rogue Lycan mastermind, Smoke, kidnapper of Lindsey and fifteen other human
women he plans to use for procreating his own army.
Trevor, Chance’s right-hand Lycan, wants
his mate back, but believes she’s fallen for her captor. Lindsey loves Trevor
but believes he’s given up on her.
Will Trevor come around in time to rescue
Lindsey and save her from shifting into Smoke’s pack, and will she even want
back with Trevor after spending so long apart?
Excerpt:
So far, Smoke didn’t share Lindsey with
other males, but she was aware of the orgies inside the central building. She
heard a few women talk of them. Some even liked them, being surrounded by
hard-bodied men hung like rocket launchers. Those women went at it without the
use of the stimulation drug Smoke used on everyone else.
She was used to the little needle pricks
and welcomed them. It made acting the part with Smoke so much easier, believing
in her heart Trevor made love to her, but guarding that fact from Smoke by
holding Trevor’s name in the secret place, locked safely away.
Lindsey understood some of the sexual
attraction. She had that once, but she couldn’t go there in her mind. Smoke
searched her thoughts almost daily and always found if she’d tapped into any
memory nuggets of people she loved. He possessed psychic abilities others
didn’t. Already, the thoughts of Trevor that had emerged she’d need to bury
before Smoke returned.
If an orgy ensued during their pack
meeting, Smoke would be preoccupied for a good while. She reached her arm
underneath the mattress, where a few weeks ago she saw Smoke slide his journal.
Lindsey had fallen asleep with her back to the fireplace. A crack of thunder
wakened her in time to witness Smoke closing a journal and placing it beneath
the mattress they shared.
Lindsey touched its
leather cover, wrapped her fingers around it, and hauled it out.
