Welcome, sweeties to 'Free-For-All Fridays'! What does this mean exactly, Blak?

Dictionary: (noun) a disorganized, or unrestricted situation, or event, usually without rules in which anyone may take part; esp. a fight, discussion, contest, or trading market.

Basically, this means that every second Friday I'll either post a short free read, fantasy image, publishing fact, contest, or whatever else tickles my fancy and yours! I'm adding FFAF to the BRB schedule to spice things up! LOL

Interviews, guest spots, and articles are wonderful, but some times it's nice to take a break. So, if you have any suggestions for a topic, or something you'd like to see me post let me know. You can email me @ Blak Rayne Email and put "FFAF" in the 'subject' line, so I know.

Seriously, I won't ignore any suggestion. As they say two heads are better than one. If I use your suggestion, I'll post your name giving credit where credit is due!

To start FFA for this Friday January 20-2012, I'm posting a contest. I wanted to do this for Christmas last year (that sounds weird, not used to 2012 yet), but time just didn't permit. Instead, I've decided to kick off this year with a little fun!

'Find The Facts Contest' -

The rules are very simple, I've listed four questions and the person that answers them correctly by Sunday January 22 @ noon (12:00 PM) Pacific Time, will win a gift certificate from either Barnes & Noble, or Amazon, along with a surprise eBook. Please list your answers in the comments section of this post, so everyone can see, and to keep things fair. ALL the questions must be answered correctly to win. Pretty simple huh? Wait until you read the questions. Good luck!

1. Final Fantasy is one of the most successful RPG games ever developed. First published in 1987 for the Nintendo console, by the Japanese company Square Co. Ltd (or more commonly called Squaresoft). The creator, Hironobu Sakaguchi, named his role-playing game 'Final Fantasy' because it was his last ditch effort to fight off the threat of bankruptcy. What company did Squaresoft merge with in 2003?

2. Founded by Jeff Bezos, Amazon.com claims to be the largest Internet retailer in the world. What two companies sued Amazon in the late 1990's, settling out of court, and what years?

3. What yaoi manga artist, and in what year, had to publicly apologize due to copyright infringement, after tracing advertising photographs for the illustrations in her manga?

4. What is the largest desert in the world?

Happy Yaoi Hunting!

  1. I had fun searching for the facts, and how enlightening...still learning about the Yaoi.
    Thank you!

    Answer to question 1.}
    Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within made Enix hesitant to join with a company which was losing money, and the merge was delayed until April 1, 2003, when the two companies finally merged to form Square Enix.

    Answer question 2.}
    From 1993 to 1996, Apple developed a marketing strategy that promised free unlimited live-telephone support on certain products for as long as the original purchaser owned it. However, by 1997, changes in Apple's AppleCare support policy led them to rescind the offer, resulting in a class action lawsuit which ultimately reinstated the phone support for the duration of original ownership of these otherwise obsolete products. Customers who were refused telephone service and charged per incident or incurred third party support charges were given a limited reimbursement.

    Answer to question 3.}
    Although Nitta was already a fan of manga, she was introduced to yaoi manga when she was in grade five, by an older girl who was her neighbour. Her first manga story, "GROUPIE", was published by Biblos in 1997. She believes in characters not always having to be the seme or uke, and her Embracing Love has been called the first title available with a "reversible" couple in English. In 2008 it was reported that Nitta had infringed upon the copyright of advertising photographs by tracing them for illustrations in her manga Embracing Love; she subsequently apologized for the misuse, as did her publisher. Nitta attended the 2002 Yaoi-Con and the 2006 New York Comic Con but cancelled her planned appearance at the 2008 Yaoi-Con in the aftermath of the tracing scandal

    Answer to question 4}
    The largest (nonpolar) desert in the world is the Sahara, in north Africa, which spans an area measured at roughly 3.5 million square miles.
