Welcome to BRB, everyone, and another FFAF! How many times have I said that? LOL Today I wanted to share some good news and an interesting blog post I read recently called:
The author, Diana Peterfreund, hits the nail right on the head. Those who post fanfiction and any other type of free reads online be very wary, actually anything free. You never know who might cash in on your imaginative hard work.
And, speaking of sharing material, someone who had dropped in at my writers group, not long ago, asked everyone how we felt about sharing our work for critiquing and whether we feared someone might steal our ideas. By the blank stares on everyones' faces, I believe we were taken aback by the question. Most of us stated that sharing was a personal choice and, as authors, we run the group according to an unspoken honour system. Respect is huge. We don't steal. But, of course, that doesn't mean it couldn't happen. Personally, I've heard of worse. And, as a victim of pirating myself, which is just another level of plagiarism in my eyes, I can't say I feel an ounce of sympathy for anyone who profits from theft then cries when they get caught. The sad part, as with any crime, the victim always suffers the most. When it comes to plagiarism the author is devestated. Trust me, it's one thing to have your work stolen, but to have some asshole put his name on it and reap the rewards is completely another.
Okay, time to move along. I'm starting to grit my teeth again. Whenever something really frosts me, I clench my jaw. Bad habit. *deep breath*
My latest novel is finally published! Phew! For the next 90 days it will only be available through Amazon, due to something new I'm trying. You can read, I believe, the first three chapters at Amazon. So now I'm working to finish the next novel and a very short story for YSD.
Have a great weekend!
