YAOI REVIEW

Hello sweeties, today I've got a couple of brand new yaoi manga's that I've reviewed. The first is Sensitive Pornograph by Ashika Sakura. I must confess, I've heard of this yaoi, seen some decent art but I've never read it until now. Sensitive Pornograph is a compendium of seven short stories by Ashika Sakura, the first one being Sensitive Pornograph. And, this is apparently the most popular.
Seiji Yamada, age twenty-two is an artist of male oriented manga (who didn't see that coming). LOL He meets a fellow artist, who writes hentai, Sono Hanasaki. Seiji believes Sono is a she. Anyway, he ends up falling for Sono, regardless that he's a guy. There isn't much of a storyline to be honest, there's a little discrepancy over their age difference (Sono is older) and the fact that Sono is accused of being promiscuous, but other than that it's a shag-fest (I'm being polite). The artistry is okay. But the story really lacks. The rest of the shorts in this compendium fall along the same lines. The sex is moderately explicit and there's lots of it, and for a thirty-two page manga that means there's more intercourse than anything else. I give this manga a two, not overly impressed. I've read the OVA's are better and beautifully done. Not sure, still debating whether I should bother to watch them or not.
My next review is Love Circumstances by Aco Oumi. During the summer, Yamaguchi ends up going out with his best friend, Takagari. Takagari says he loves Yamaguchi and this is where the plot thickens, so-to-speak. Yamaguchi can't seem to accept their relationship as it is, he constantly questions everything and picks. His strange behaviour and insecurities put a definite strain on any healthy growth. Takagari has to find a way to calm his nervous uke. I found Love Circumstances to have more of an actual story. The characters did develop, and there is humour. On the down side, though the artistry is nice, there are some issues with body proportion and angle (ouch). LOL Overall the sex is explicit, artistry acceptable and characters likeable. My rating, a three.

That's it for this post folks. I'm always on the hunt for yaoi, and preferably a really great one I can sink my teeth in. I'll continue to purchase and read, and pass on my thoughts to you. I've  decided to try Kirepapa, the manga, since I loved the OVA's. I'd also like to get my hands on Crimson Spell, Antique Bakery and Ikoku Irokoi Romantan.

I've posted Naughty Nightstands @ RLJ! I won't tell you who did the interview, you'll just have to check it out for yourself.
Happy Yaoi Hunting!

  1. Theres nothing better than to curl up in bed late at night with a pile of your favourite yaoi mangas, a cup of hot chai tea and a few chocolate covered oatmeal cookies. Once again, Blak, you've proved that not all yaoi, though, is that great!

    - Love an avid fan who hasn't posted comments in a while! <3
