Hello everyone! The second author of this weeks interview blitz is here @ BRB. Please welcome co-contributor to the 'Kissed From Beyond' anthology, Amber Scott!! A lovely lady with loads of talent! It's wonderful to have you @ BRB, Amber. First, everyone needs to know who is, Amber Scott? Tell us all about yourself.
I adore chocolate and can’t live without coffee. I’m a terrible cook and a really good liar. Well, maybe liar isn’t the right word. Tale-spinner? I live for make believe and thankfully my two little ones and husband share me with the characters in my head.
When did you know you wanted to become a writer?
I can vividly recall telling my mom I’d be a writer. I had to be about four years old. She nodded and smiled and asked, what will you write, Amber? I had no idea but something inside me ignited. I knew I really would be a writer. It wasn’t until I had my son that I sat down to attempt my first novel, though.
Who and/or what prompted you to write your first novel?
Being a stay home mom, I suddenly had a very structured schedule. My son was that kind of baby who needed naps at certain times and only at home in his own crib. I thought, if not now, when? When will I ever get the chance to see if my dream can become a reality. I’d never attempted a novel so how did I know if I even liked this dream I’d held dear for so long?
Where and/or how do you find the greatest inspiration?
Music tends to trigger my muse most. For each book I create a soundtrack. I pick songs for each character, for fight scenes in my paranormals, for love scenes in the spicier stuff. I love a great song and am always on the hunt for the next one that will light up my mental circuit boards.
What made you chose to write erotic (paranormal/historical) literature in particular? And is there any other genre you’d like to write? And if so, why?
I tried my first erotica in order to target e-publishers several years ago after seeing authors like Cheyenne McCray succeed in breaking out after writing erotica. Unagented submissions were accepted and my impatient eager nature keyed right in. Thankfully, I also really love writing it!
Which appears first when contemplating a new project: A character, the plot and/or the title?
Usually the heroine will start whispering in my ear. Sometimes a scene will appear or a particular setting. I love books that begin where I feel like I’m overhearing a conversation I’m not supposed to. I love that feeling most, the what if that sparks up my chest and throat making me crave getting the story out.
What’s the hardest part of a novel for you to write: Beginning, middle and/or end? Why?
I think it depends on the novel. For each one there will come a point where I resist taking the characters where they need to go. The black moment that is really black, the decision I don’t agree with but realize it is sort of theirs and not mine. I get stuck, resist and then finally plow onward.
Has your own life influenced your novels? And if so, how?
I write about loss and angst. I think we all are dealt a certain dose of this and I had a tough childhood. It comes out in my novels a lot. For example, Stealing Dusk, the sequel I’m writing for Fierce Dawn (out now), touches on addiction. This is a hot spot for me since my father died from alcoholism. But I also know because of my past, I can give Lyric, a blood addicted vampire, the empathy needed to share his struggle with readers and bring him to redemption.
Writing sex/romantic scenes can be a challenge for some authors. Do you find it difficult? If yes, how do you compensate? If no, where do you draw your inspiration?
Not at all. The one thing I have difficulty with is that little voice whispering, what will people think, Amber! I get over it. The story is what matters. Stephen King doesn’t have people buried in his backyard and I’m not the vixen some assume.
A sexy song is all it takes to draw me into a hot love scene. My favorite go to right not is “Electic Feel” by MGMT. Yum!!
Do you have a method you use to write the sensual parts? Do you prefer the sex to be open and bold? Or left to the imagination?
It depends on the character’s personality. Some heroine’s are bold, others a bit repressed so who they are colors the language used and the reactions, too.
Are your characters based on people you know? Or are they completely fictitious?
I draw from how I felt with certain people, for example a crush from college or a guy that got away, but they characters come already formed into my head. I’m getting to know them as I write just as the reader does as they read.
Who is your favorite character, which you’ve created? And why?
Oh, that a tough one! Right now, my favorite character is Crew because he’s the most recent hero I fell in love with. The things he says to Sara made me cry while I wrote it. He’s just one of those people you know you’re only glimpsing the surface of and that makes you want to dive deep. But he gets away before we really can.
Can you tell us about your latest release? Give a synopsis.
My latest release is Fierce Dawn. In this world, blood is a drug and vampires are the immortals addicted to it. Humankind is evolving. Most have doubted the age old prophecy of humans becoming immortal changelings validity. One seeker finds the truth and thinks she might be the key to unraveling a conspiracy against mankind. One reviewer called it “X-men action meets True Blood heat” and I can’t agree more.
What’s your newest WIP? And when we can expect a publication date?
The Sweetest Fling, book two in the Stupid Cupid series will release this July. In this adventure, Millie Match finds herself trying to ruin her target’s second chance with the one who got away because she is absolutely certain the chick is all wrong for the great guy he is.
How many novels do you have, that are currently published? Please list all the publishers, so the readers can locate you.
I have three titles with Liquid Silver Books and have four Indie titles and counting. All my books can be found on Amazon, BN.com and most e-bookstores.
Where do you see your writing career in the next five to ten years?
Going strong and taking a top spot in the bestseller charts. Thanks to amazing readers, honest reviewers and programs like Blog Tour de Force and Bestseller For a Day with the Indie Book Collective, I’m seeing my dreams coming true little by little every day. I’m a lucky, lucky girl!
