CONTEST- AUTHOR LUX ZAKARI

Welcome to BRB everyone! I'd like you to find that comfy spot. I'm not sure where it is for you, but when I'm at the computer I sit in a big, black executive style chair. It has lots of padding for my ample ass. **eh hem** LOL And as far as drinks go, you know I prefer a Chia Tea Latte. Ahh...Chia Tea my comfort after kicking smoking. Hey it works! As you also know today is Wednesday and this time, I've interviewed erotic author, Lux Zakari. Ms. Zakari is fairly new to the industry but as I'm learning quite a talented lady.
Contest:
Lux Zakari also wished to run a contest with this interview - which I think is a really awesome idea! So here's the rule ladies and gentlemen, please read carefully. Whoever posts a comment to the blog about something that makes them happy will have a chance to win a free copy of Coercion. Lux felt it would be best if I chose the winner to keep the contest fair. Please note you've got until next Wednesday March 16th when I post the next interview to comment and tell Lux what makes you happy!

1.     Who is Lux Zakari? Tell us about yourself.

I’m an erotica author in the northeast United States. My stories, poetry and reviews have appeared in Best Women's Erotica 2009, Racy Pages’ Surprise and Best Bondage Erotica 2011, as well as the websites Clean Sheets, Oysters and Chocolate, The Erotic Woman and For the Girls. Coercion, my first erotic novel, was released August 2010.

2.     When did you know you wanted to become a writer?

Writing has always been something I’ve just done without thinking about it. I can’t not write. I’ve been constantly creating stories since I was a kid, either to remember an idea or a game my friends and I invented or something that happened to me, but it’s always been so inherent and natural it didn’t dawn on me until I hit college that this hobby that came so organically to me could be a career.

3.     Who and/or what prompted you to write your first novel?

Several factors went into me writing Coercion, and I go into more detail in my posted list called “How to Write Coercion,” which is a tongue-in-cheek look at how exactly Coercion came about.

4.     Where and/or how do you find the greatest inspiration?

I often stumble across ideas just going about my daily business. Last night, I was sitting at my friend’s kitchen table at 2 a.m., and Carole King’s “So Far Away” started playing, and I was struck by an idea for a story. Inspiration really is everywhere—you just have to be open to finding it!

5.     What made you chose to write erotic literature in particular? And is there any other genre you’d like to write? And if so, why?

My work always features a heavy emphasis on relationships, and prior to me writing erotica, I found the writing edging toward steamy anyway. However, I was too shy to actually write it until a friend urged me to collaborate on an erotic romance, and then I was hooked. But I’m not committed to writing only erotica; I definitely see myself exploring other genres in the future.

6.     Which appears first when contemplating a new project: A character, the plot and/or the title?

Never is it the title—I’m awful with them! If I have a title, I don’t have a story, and vice versa; rarely do the twain meet. The plot usually dawns first—a glimmer of an idea. The characters naturally follow.

7.     What’s the hardest part of a novel for you to write: Beginning, middle and/or end? Why?

The end is the easiest; I usually know how I want everyone in the story to end up. The beginning is definitely most difficult; it can be tricky leaping right into the fray.

8.     Has your own life influenced your novels? And if so, how?

It has; my inside jokes and stories I’ve shared with my friends wind up sneaking in there in some way or another. Stories have certainly bloomed out of conversations and ideas taken too far.

9.     Writing sex scenes can be a challenge for some authors. Do you find it difficult? If yes, how do you compensate? If no, where do you draw your inspiration?

It can be difficult; I wind up writing everything around the sex scene, saving it for last. At this point, I’ve written so many sex scenes in stories both available to readers and works in progress that it can be challenging dreaming up a new, exciting erotic situation, but I just push through, imagining how I’d want the scene play out visually, and the scene unfolds from there.

10. Do you have a method you use to write the sensual parts? Do you prefer the sex to be open and bold? Or left to the imagination?

It’s hard for me not to be explicit; I want to capture all the sensations, thoughts and so on regarding the moment. However, in future works, I’d like to experiment with a less-is-more approach.

11. Are your characters based on people you know? Or are they completely fictitious?

Currently, no character of mine completely embodies someone I know, although there are elements of people I’ve met in each one.

12. Who is your favorite character, which you’ve created? And why?

I really enjoyed writing the character Breeze in Coercion. I had a reader write me telling me how evil she found Breeze, but I see her as unpredictable, fiery and, yes, cruel, but for a reason. Her relationship with Michael intrigued me; no matter how unhealthy it was, they clearly cared about each other; it was a union of equals.

13. Can you tell us about your latest release? Give a synopsis.

Sure, here’s the blurb for Coercion:
How far will one woman go for love?

Introverted and insecure Valerie Mercer was promised that during her senior year of college she would finally attract attention from boys…but never dreamed that would include Michael Vartanian.

Good looking, troubled and every parent’s nightmare, Michael is adamant on introducing Valerie to a world of both pleasure and, inadvertently, heartbreak. His interest in Valerie is dependent upon the mood and fidelity of his on-and-off-again girlfriend, Breeze.

Nevertheless, Valerie lets her hope and desire override common sense and soon finds she can’t deny Michael anything…no matter what’s at stake.

Content warning, explicit sex, prolific drug and alcohol usage, profanity.

14. What’s your newest WIP? And when we can expect a publication date?

I’m currently in the midst of finding a home for two new novels and working on another that started out as a friends-becoming-more scenario meets Eyes Wide Shut, but it’s taking on a life of its own.

15. How many novels do you have, that are currently published? Please list all the publishers, so the readers can locate you.

My novel Coercion is available now via Lyrical Press. I’ve been featured in several anthologies and websites as well, and curious readers can check out my Body of Work on My Website to learn more.

16. Where do you see your writing career in the next five to ten years?

Flourishing, I hope! Writing is something I want to do for always—as I mentioned earlier, I can’t not do it, and I hope more people are able to read the stories and ideas I want to share with them.

Thanks so much for stopping by Lux, it was great to have you here! I wish you all the success for your current and future publications! Here are some of her links:

Coercion sounds fascinating because of the different personalities involved and the mention of evil. Can't wait to read it.

Best of luck on all future writing endeavors.

What makes me happy! The happiness and health of my children. Course without the second one,it's hard to catch the first.

  8. What makes me happy? Food. I love food. Especially fried, haha! And lots and lots of beer. Not crappy beer like Bud Light, Miller or all those other "big name" brands. Yuck. They have no taste or flavor! Gimme a Shiner beer! Dark, creamy, rich...yum! And lots of suds!

Damn. Now I want a beer...

  9. I don't know if it's too late to join the contest, but what makes me happy is laughing. I tend to be serious, but when something strikes me as very funny and I can laugh, that makes me happy.

Of course, winning millions in the lotto would do the trick, too.

  11. Oh I forgot to list what makes me happy. I have so many things that make me happy. However theres two things that brings the feeling of content to me. This would be listening to the rain come down on my tin roof. It's pure heaven, the second one is listening to a baby in its crib, just giggling for no reason.

In my mind I see that baby seeing Angels who watch over it and playing with him or her.
