Yaoi Review - 'Sex Therapist'

A couple of months back, I was sniffing around on the Internet for a new Yaoi series to indulge in. Usually I hunt through sites like Youtube or Amazon and various Manga sites, even Ebay, but this time I stumbled across the series ‘Sex Therapist’ by reading an article on Kodaka Kazuma (one of my favourite yaoi artists and authors). I had no idea this manga was hers, though the artistry seemed extremely familiar; after a while you begin to recognize the style of certain anime / manga artists.

This yaoi is a no-brainer. It’s simplistic, raunchy and again Kodaka has done a wonderful job with the artistry (plenty of eye-candy). I will say that this yaoi is a bit more explicit than perhaps Kizuna, one of her most popular works, and I wouldn’t count on a really in depth plot. The sex therapist in the story (hence the name) runs a local bar called the ‘Kain’ and he offers sexual therapy for men facing problems in their love lives. Some of the men are told about the bar, where others just happen to walk in, but each man has a relationship problem or lack thereof, and each sees the therapist as the object of his desire (the man he’s in love with). The hallucinations are real to the man in need and the sex therapist in the end helps the man overcome his fears. This yaoi manga is a compilation of seven short stories (7 Chapters) ranging from twenty-five to thirty-one pages each. Each story has different characters of course and a different series of problems the characters face.

As far as actual plot goes, like I said, there really isn’t much of one to speak of; all seven stories are brief and too predictable. I did find the drawings gorgeous as per Ms. Kazuma’s style, very titillating and enjoyable, but other than that I lost interest fairly quickly and found that I was skipping ahead, like a bad child, just to read the sex scenes! LOL And those, I must say, are very smexy! :D

My rating is 3.5 stars; great to look at but nothing to sink my teeth in. If you wish to purchase this manga, good luck. I searched the Internet and Ebay has it but only in Japanese format, and any of the other places I usually shop, they’re out of stock. One again you have a Japanese yaoi manga that is difficult to find and as usual virtually impossible to purchase (which seems to be the story of any mangaholic’s life like myself). LOL

Happy Yaoi Hunting!!
