BOOK REVIEW: Retribution – ‘Journey of The Damned’

A New Release (Young Adult/Paranormal/Romance)

My BRB blog was initiated just recently, in fact back around the end of August of this year and when I began I set certain goals for myself; I wanted to keep the blog active, of course, by adding at least three posts every week and sadly this week, I’ve fallen short. But it’s been a very busy week so far and I’ve had to allot my time wisely. If anyone reading this is a fellow author you’ll understand my plight. Right now I’m preparing to finish the second part to Devotion for release in November, but I’m also in the midst of writing a trilogy about a bounty hunter, Benevolence, which I hope to have finished and approved for publication before the end of this month. And to do all this takes time. Then you have life and well…you know what I mean.

For today’s blog I’ve chosen to do something I’ve never done before…write a review of a novel I just finished reading yesterday (and yes I read a book this week as well) LOL.

The novel is titled Retribution – ‘Journey Of The Damned’ and was written by the lovely author Robin Badillo, a wonderful lady I’ve had the great pleasure of getting to know this week. Retribution is an eBook publication and available for purchase through Devine Destinies.

If you wish to read a tantalizing excerpt from Ms. Badillo’s new release or purchase it, you can click on the Devine Destinies link at the end of this blog post. But if you wish to learn more about this exciting new author you can hit the ROBIN BADILLO - AUTHOR link under my Artists & Friends column.

Okay…in my entire life I’ve only ever read one vampire book, Bram Stoker’s Dracula and for the rest of the time I’ve watched movies like Blade, Underworld and Van Helsing–OMG Hugh Jackman **drools** (that’s a topic of discussion for another time) LOL. Anyway, I’m sure you get the picture. In my mind vampires are sexy, intelligent and powerful creatures, but I’ll tell you something, there’s more to these creatures in Retribution than my novice ideas. Robin has a passion for vampires and in a totally different way from the norm. Sadly hers don’t sparkle (thank GOD!) LOL. But her characters are down to earth and just as vulnerable in many ways as the average human being. This isn’t to say they don’t possess some of the qualities we’ve all come to expect and admire in a traditional vampire, but they are very unique.

After reading the first chapter of this romance, I was honestly captivated. The lead character is a young woman who’s somehow been turned. And this poor girl has no recollection of whom she is or where she came from–there’s absolutely no personal history left. Her entire memory has been wiped out. This turning process takes time and is extremely painful. A woman, Porscha, finds her lying in the streets and takes her home. From that point on the girl’s new life unfolds as she learns what it really means to be a vampire–the pitfalls, the truths and the folklore.  She meets others of her kind and a tense bond unexpectedly comes about with another vampire, Demetri. Her new existance’s a soul-searching journey and she’s constantly riding this roller coaster between her past and the present, trying to decide who to trust, where to go and how to get there.

To put things simply, I found Ms. Badillo’s Retribution to be a well-written novel, with description and dialogue that flows effortlessly from the moment you begin to read.  Her characters are forever evolving with the plot and easy to fall in love with. But the best part…you never really know what’s going to happen next.

I could go on and on, but I don’t feel I’d do Robin Badillo or her novel true justice. You’ll just have to trust me and read it yourself to fully appreciate this Southern Lady’s literary talent. If I had to choose one word to describe Retribution – ‘Journey of The Damned’…it would be Bravo! I’m hooked and can’t wait until the next installment!
